Two renowned theologians go head-to-head in a rigorous, respectful debate on one of the most discussed passages in Scripture—**John 1:1–18**. 📖 **Thesis:** *"John 1 is not Trinitarian."* 📖 **Debate Format** * Opening Statements (30 min each) * Rebuttals (10 min each) * Cross-Examination (15 min each) * Audience Q&A (15 min) * Closing Statements (5 min each) **Highlights:** * Historical development of Trinitarian doctrine * The Greek grammar of *John 1:1* ("In the beginning was the Word…") * The meaning of "the Word was God" * Can the Bible teach the Trinity without the word "Trinity"? * Is the Word an eternal divine person, or God's own wisdom personified? Taking the **affirmative**, **Dr. Dale Tuggy** (Unitarian Christian Alliance) argues that John's prologue should be read through a first-century lens, without importing later Trinitarian concepts. Taking the **negative**, **Dr. James White** (Alpha & Omega Ministries) contends that the Greek text itself affirms the eternal deity of Christ and that the doctrine of the Trinity is rooted in Scripture, not post-biblical development. Dr. White defends the classical Trinitarian understanding that "the Word was God," while Dr. Tuggy argues from a Unitarian perspective that *John 1* does not teach a tri-personal God. Together, they explore Greek grammar, early church history, philosophy of time, and biblical theology — offering deep insights into how Christians have read this passage for centuries. 💬 **Moderator:** Jeremiah Nortier (*The Apologetic Dog*) 📍 Hosted by: Covenant Reformed Baptist Church 📅 Dr. White's 200th moderated public debate
In February of 2024 James White and Trent Horn did two, back to back debates at First Lutheran Church in Houston. The first night was on sola scriptura, and the second on purgatory. It was the conjunction of these two debates that was most informative and useful. We invite our viewers to listen to both debates and compare the assertions concerning the "deposit of faith" and "apostolic tradition" in the first with the argumentation in defense of purgatory in the second. It is very enlightening!

Do the Catholic Church's Teachings on Mary Constitute Authentic Christian Doctrine? James White debates Peter D. Williams at the London Oratory in St. Wilfrid's Hall.
In the first public, moderated debate between Alpha and Omega Ministries and Catholic Answers in over twenty years (excluding radio encounters), Catholic Answers Staff Apologist Trent Horn debates the Director of Alpha and Omega Ministries, James White, on the question of whether a true Christian can lose their salvation. Going directly to the heart of the gospel itself, this debate will raise many issues relating to the issues surrounding God's sovereignty, grace, and man's sinfulness.
Today we did a full 2+ hour debate with Elder Rachwaa Shayar of the GoCC on three different topics. A pretty wild ride, to be sure. Make sure to listen through to the end please.
James White debates Graeme Codrington in Johannessburg South Africa on the subject of gay marriage.
James White debates Richard Hopkins on the history and biblical nature of constructing and need for Temples in the New Testament. Given the LDS emphasis on temple work this is a very important subject for reaching LDS people.
The issue of the nature of God is the dividing line that separates Mormonism from Biblical Christianity. Mormon apologists over the past few decades have begun appealing to the early church fathers and the doctrine of 'theosis,' asserting that if we acknowledge the Christian standing of these early Christians, then we should not question the claim that Mormons are Christians as well. But is this a fair use of the early Fathers? James White debates LDS apologist and FARMS contributor Martin Tanner at the University of Utah on this key subject.
Is it unloving and judgmental to believe that God has spoken on homosexuality?
Taped on Long Island in August of 1996, James White debates Gerry Matatics on the subject of the Marian Dogmas: Immaculate Conception, Perpetual Virginity, Bodily Assumption, Queenly Coronation of Mary, and Mary as Co-Redemptrix. Are these dogmas about Mary true as the church in Rome claims, or what Protestants say about Mary is true: she was uniquely chosen by God to bear the Messiah and raised Him up like any normal mother, that she had marital relations with her husband, Joseph, and that she was a sinner like all of mankind? A fast-paced debate that is quite the primer if one is studying the Marian dogmas.

Did Paul wrongly accuse Peter in Galatians 2? Is the primacy of Peter actually shown in the Aramaic of Matthew (ignoring the fact that we have no such manuscript)? And was the deity of Christ and the Trinity so vague that it required councils to dogmatize the doctrine centuries after the writing of the New Testament? All these arguments and more from the Roman Catholic side as James White teams up with Rob Zins to debate Robert Sungenis & Scott Butler

Is it necessary to have the sins purged of those who are in Christ Jesus before they can go to heaven? This is the famous/infamous 'Pay now, pay later' debate, so named for Dr. Stravinskas' response to a question regarding a passage from Tobit. This debate quickly drifts off of Purgatory to the underlying issue of authority and Rome's claim to it. A very eye-opening dialogue highlighting the difference between the biblical gospel and Rome's gospel of self-righteousness.

Can someone be gay and be a christian? James White debates Barry Lynn. Not only is Lynn the Executive Director of American's United for the Separation of Church and State he is also an ordained minister in the United Church of Christ. The cross examination in this debate is worth listening all by itself. James confronts Lynn's low view of scripture only to find out that Lynn didn't even bother to bring a bible with him. It isn't long before Lynn begins getting agitated and even calls the Apostle Paul 'over the top.' Disclaimer: The opening remarks portion of this debate, (the first hour), was over modulated as it was recorded, causing distortion. We have done everything we can to clean it up. While the sound during this portion is irritating, it remains audible. Given the obvious importance of the subject matter of the debate and that the balance of the debate (almost 2 hours) is just fine, we felt that making it available was absolutely necessary. We apologize for the inconvenience.
James White debates John Dominic Crossanm (co-founder of The Jesus Seminar), on the vital subject of how we are to understand and believe the bible. This very amiable debate took place at the conclusion of the 2005 Conference. Dr. Crossan has been seen on many a secular television special regarding Jesus, the most memorable being the Peter Jennings special on ABC. The world considers Dr. Crossan and The Jesus Seminar to be cutting-edge scholarship. This was a battle of presuppositions. One's presuppositions determine how the Biblical text is to be interpreted and handled. Is the Bible's account of the life of Jesus historical and accurate? Is God presently active in the world? Has the Gospel message changed? Does it need to be changed for today? Did the Incarnation, Crucifixion, and Resurrection of Jesus happen, or are they just parables to present a Jesus as a figure to emulate? These questions and many others are answered during a lengthy cross examination period.
Does Trinitarian baptism join you to the New Covenant? Does it join you to Christ? Does it make you a brother or sister in Christ with everyone else who has likewise been baptized, even if you hold to a false gospel? Are Roman Catholics our brothers and sisters in Christ by baptism, but not by confession of faith? These are the issues debated by Douglas Wilson of Christ Church, Moscow, Idaho and James White of Alpha and Omega Ministries.
This is the 10th debate in the Great Debate series covering the topic of whether or not a non-Christian can enter Heaven. In this debate, Dr. White takes the negative whereas Bill Rutland takes the positive side. This is certainly one of the more gentlemanly debates with both sides behaving in a cordial manner towards one another. The focus of the debate are two sections of the Catechism of the Roman Catholic Church, namely, sections 841 and 1260. Both sections describe how non-Christians may enter Heaven. To be honest, Mr. Rutland has an indefensible issue because he had to prove that these sections in the Roman Catholic catechism are, in fact, apostolic teaching. You will note an almost universal salvation theme crop up in the debate, and the notion that there will be those who are saved outside of Christ. This debate exposes another error in Rome's soteriology-in addition to her errors regarding justification, sanctification, purgatory, and the concept of the free will of man, sections 841 and 1260 also present a sort of 'back door' into Heaven. It is also interesting to note that Mr. Rutland repeatedly tried to bring up those who die in infancy and those who are mentally incapacitated as a defense of sections 841 and 1260. However, those subjects are described in section 1261 of the Roman Catholic catechism.
A very interesting debate where both sides make strong cases, until one examines the other. Michuta makes a strong opening statement, however it is refuted by Dr. White during rebuttal. For the rest of the debate Michuta makes no attempt to deal with Dr. White's countering evidence, and simply gives responses grounded in accusations of misunderstanding and deliberate mischaracterization. This is less a debate about what is scripture and more about why the Deuterocanonical Books are indeed apocryphal.
The debate thesis was: 'the story of Jesus is cut from the same story as other ancient mythologies.' This lively debate starts off with fireworks as Dan objects to James' quoting from his books and insists on not being quoted. This debate took place on September 26, 2009, in Newberg, Oregon, between Dan Barker of the Freedom From Religion Foundation and James White of Alpha and Omega Ministries.
Does the Bible teach the Trinity? James. White explains how the Bible has always taught monotheism, while simultaneously teaching that the persons of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are God. The Father is not the Son, the Son is not the Spirit, and the Spirit is not the Father. Yet, the same name, Yahweh, is applied to the Father, the Son, and the Spirit. Moreover, each of the persons is equal in Scripture. Thus, the Bible teaches the Trinity.
Can a Christian truly believe that the New Testament is inspired by God? Or, has it been corrupted and rewritten through the centuries as Muslim apologist Shabir Ally claims? In addition, can the Koran survive under the same standard that Muslims place on the New Testament, as it too, is a work of antiquity? James White and Shabir Ally debate this topic at Biola University.
Islam denies the reality of the crucifixion and the need for sacrifice for the atonement of sins, and hence rejects the entirety of the New Testament witness to Christ's death upon the cross of Calvary. Listen as James White challenges the use of forty Arabic words (Surah 4:157 in the Qur'an) as a completely insufficient basis for the overthrow of the entirety of the historical and biblical witness to the crucifixion.
This historic debate with one of Jehovah's Witnesses best apologists centers on the deity of Christ.
James White debates Oneness Pentecostal Scholar Robert Sabin on the Biblical nature of the historic Christian doctrine of the Trinity vs the teachings of Oneness Pentecostalism.
James White debates Muslim Hamza Abdul Malik in a classic defense of the historic Christian doctrine of the Deity of Christ vs the teachings of Islam.
James White vs Paul Barber May, 1998 in Queens, NY. James White vs Church of Christ Minister Paul Barber
Topic #1 is 'The Will of Man' and Topic #2 is 'Limited Atonement.'
James White and Michael Brown debate the central issue of God's Sovereignty and Election at Southern Evangelical Seminary in Charlotte, North Carolina. In a debate marked by mutual respect and brotherhood, these two apologists do not hesitate to press each other on the implications of their beliefs. The debate includes 25 minute opening statements, plenty of interaction, and audience questions. If you want to hear a biblically based, intra-mural, brotherly debate that is clear and direct, this is the one to listen to.
In 'Is the Bible True', James White and Robert Price battle on a wide-ranging, fast-paced front. White challenges Dr. Price's skepticism, treatment of the Biblical text, and approach to history; while Dr. Price concentrates on claims of contradiction, Greek influence on Jewish culture, and his views on the reliability of Scripture. The examination is quick and meaty, and the argumentation is worthy of in-depth study. The preparation level in this debate was excellent, and the level of dialogue was professional throughout. This debate will help any Christian who wants to know how to challenge invalid non-Christian assumptions while proclaiming God's truth faithfully.
Originally slated to be with Christopher Hitchens, this debate took place on Long Island on August 30, 2010. In this quick-moving, lively and spirited debate, James White and David Silverman debate the foundations of truth, morality, humanity, knowledge, Scripture, and the nature of God Himself. This exchange will be a valuable resource for those seeking to find a balanced answer for a wide variety of the topics unbelievers broach. Mr. Silverman's objections, and Dr. White's responses, on morality, goodness, slavery, dignity, salvation, original sin, the problem of evil, and other topics are truly valuable. Of special note is the discussion of objective ethics in cross-examination, and Mr. Silverman's attempted defense of subjective ethics.
Taped on Long Island in May of 1999, James White debates Roman Catholic Apologist Robert Sungenis on the biblical and historical merits of the Mass. This debate deals with vital topics like: • What is the history of the Mass? • What about transubstantiation? • Why is the Mass called a sacrifice? • Can a priest “re-present” Christ on the altar? • How did the early church view the “Eucharist”? Was the sacrifice of Christ a “once for all” event or is it to be repeated over and over as in the Roman Mass?
James White debates atheist Dan Barker of the Freedom From Religion Foundation. The debate thesis was 'The Triune God of Scripture Lives.' This debate took place at the University of Illinois in Urbana on April 30, 2009.
Is baptism only for those who have repented of their sins and expressed faith in Jesus Christ? This is a classic debate between an elder in a Reformed Baptist Church, James White, and an elder of the Orthodox Presbyterian Church, Bill Shishko. Carried out in a spirit of brotherly love as an intramural debate, this encounter will help all to understand the issues that separate these two Reformed positions.
Is the Roman Catholic Church correct when she says that we can merit justification? Was the Council of Trent right after all? Can we lose our justification? Or is the Protestant Reformation correct in saying that a man is justified by faith alone, apart from works? Is Christ's imputed righteousness enough to allow us to stand before a Holy God, or must we go through satispassio in Purgatory?
Dr. James White debates Dr. Bart Ehrman on the topic of his book 'Misquoting Jesus.'
Previously titled 'The Lost Debate' because Catholic Answers claimed that they had lost the tapes. They were able to find the first half of the debate but somehow, still lost the other half. This is the same debate where Dr. Sippo left the room during Dr. White's presentation to go get a Coke. Just as in his articles, E-mails, and web postings, it seems that Dr. Sippo cannot resist misrepresenting 'Prot'estant doctrines, or calling those with whom he disagrees apostates.
One of the most useful and helpful debates on the topic of Sola Scriptura. Dr. White and Dr. Pacwa lay out the issues very clearly without the debate devolving into a battle of personalities. A prime example how timed, moderated debate should be done. Recorded in December, 1999 in El Cajon, CA
Sola Fide? Does Biblical Salvation come by Faith Alone? Or are there external things that contribute to the process?
James White and Fr. Mitchell Pacwa debate the validity of the Roman Priesthood.
James White and Robert Sungenis debate the Roman Mass in, of all places, Salt Lake City Utah. Robert Sungenis claims that James embarrassed himself in this debate. Listen for yourself and find out the real story.
The core issue behind the differences dividing biblical Christianity with the Roman religion.
James White (D.Min., Th.D.) debates John Sanders (Ph.D.) in the chapel of the Reformed Theological Seminary in Orlando, Florida on the topic of Open Theism.
James White vs. John Sanders Is it God's will to save people apart from knowledge of Jesus Christ? Inclusivism is all the rage in many 'evangelical' circles. James White debates John Sanders on this important topic at 'The Grind,' a unique setting for such an encounter.
Does the Apocrypha belong in the Canon of Scripture? James White vs Gerry Matatics Protestants often find this a curious subject since their Bibles don't normally include this section. Should they? This debate was held at Boston College.
The Regeneration and Perserverance Debate (Lordship salvation) Dr. White debates Dr. Robert Wilkin of the Grace Evangelical Society on the subject of faith. The two parts of this debate are Regeneration and the Ordo Salutis, and the Perserverance of the Saints. To be honest, James was disappointed with this debate. The majority of the time, he had to correct mischaracterizations of his own beliefs. It was clear that Dr. Wilkin had not read any of James' books. Many times, James was morphed into an Arminian. Some important questions to be considered are: Is faith a mere tip of the hat, or is there more to it? What is regeneration? Does regeneration come before faith? Is there such a thing as a dead faith? Are there 'super' Christians? These and many other questions get answered hopefully putting the anti-Lordship debate to rest for those who are considering it as being Scriptural. Part I -- Regeneration and the ordo salutis: Does regeneration come before faith? Track 1 - Introductions Track 2 - Dr. White Affirmative (20 min) Track 3 - Dr. Wilkin Negative (20 min) Track 4 - Dr. White Rejoinder (10 min) Track 5 - Dr. Wilkin Rejoinder (10 min) Part II -- Perserverance as the evidence of saving faith: Resolved that works are (or are not) an indispensable element of true faith Track 6 - Dr. Wilkin Negative (15 min) Track 7 - Dr. White Affirmative (15 min) Track 8 - Dr. Wilkin Rejoinder (10 min) Track 9 - Dr. White Rejoinder (10 min) Part III -- Question & Answer Track 10 - Question & Answer Part IV -- Summary Track 11 - Dr. White (5 min) Track 12 - Dr. Wilkin (5 min)
James White and Gerry Matatics debate the question 'Did Mary Have Other Children?' on October 4, 2003 at the University of Utah. The fireworks start right off as James pre-emptorily refutes arguments often used by Mr. Matatics, leaving him with little to do other than challenging James to take some bizarre angelic oath of honesty.
Vinney Lewis is a Feeneyite and the most radical of the Roman apologists. Be prepared for some strange arguments!
James White vs former Catholic Answers Vice President Patrick Madrid. This is the debate that prompted one of the most outrageous articles in the history of This Rock magazine.
James White debates Jesuit scholar Mitchell Pacwa, this debate shows how very important the atonement is to this discussion.
James White debates Jesuit scholar Dr. Mitchell Pacwa. An in depth, accurate, very helpful debate on the meaning and significance of Justification. A must for anyone struggling with this issue.
Does Matthew 16:13-19 teach that Peter was the first Pope? James White and Gerry Matatics debate the primacy of Peter
The single most lively and revealing debate on Sola Scriptura yet.
Catholic Answers called this a Slam Dunk for their side! See for yourself if Catholic Answers has a case. James White vs James Akin with Hank Hannegraf
Did the Atonement of Christ accomplish its purpose or to we need the LDS church and its list of works to get to heaven?
James White debates Roman Catholic Apologist Gerry Matatics This the second of two debates held in Denver, Colorado during the Papal visit in 1993. Does the New Testament allow for an office of Pope? Was there a Papacy in the Early Church? Was Peter the first Pope? Does Peter have a line of successors? Is the Pope truly the Head of the Church, the Vicar of Christ on Earth, and the leader of all Christians? These are crucial questions that must be answered. This is the set you need to give to anyone who is considering the Papacy as a biblical belief.
An eye opening debate demonstrating the clear difference in accepted authority between the Romanist and the Christian. Listen for yourself and determine who is truly consistent with the facts laid out both in Scripture and in history. This debate was the direct result of one with Tim Staples that occurred earlier in the year.
James White debates Roman Catholic Apologist Gerry Matatics This the first of two debates held in Denver, Colorado during the Papal visit in 1993. Does the New Testament allow for an office of Pope? Was there a Papacy in the Early Church? Was Peter the first Pope? Does Peter have a line of successors? James White shows Papal Infallibility to be nothing more than a convenient invention of Rome in this debate. He clearly demonstrates that Roman arguments for Infallibility can't stand up to the test of history. Listen as an expert dismantles the Roman arguments piece by piece leaving his opponent with nothing more than empty rhetoric. Once again a predominantly Roman Catholic crowd found it hard to control themselves as James demonstrated the futility of a major Roman doctrine.
James White debates Dee Bradshaw the Pastor of Sacred Light of Christ Church of Salt Lake City, UT (Metropolitan Community Church) on the subject of Gay Marriage and the bible.
James White and Justin Lee dialogue “Can you be a Christian homosexual” at the 2013 Reformation Montana conference.
James White debates Robert Fastigi a scholar and professor of theology at St. Edward's University, a Catholic University. A helpful dialogue which shows the difference in the Bible's witness of justification by faith alone and Rome's system of possible justification by faith and works.
The debate begins between James White and LDS apologist Van Hale. Is Mormonism a Christian Religion? Or is it a counterfeit disguised to look like the one true Faith?
James defends the Scriptures from supposed contradictions. The subject of naturalism was discussed at length. The topics of fundamentalism and politics come up at times. James defends the Scriptures from supposed contradictions.
This debate, which took place in 2002 on Long Island, NY, focuses on the subject of prayer to and veneration of saints and images that represent them. Its participants are Patrick Madrid, a Roman Catholic apologist and editor of Envoy Magazine, and Dr. James White. Madrid defends the proclamation that veneration of saints and images is consistent with the Bible and Christian tradition, asserting that, as saints are fellow members of the body of Christ, they therefore are able to receive prayers from believers and intercede on the behalf of their brothers and sisters. Further, he asserts that icons and images help call for us to imitate the saints and act as memorials of honor to them. Dr. White, who denies that proclamation, demonstrates the fallacy of this position by revealing the false dichotomy created by Roman Catholicism on the terms latria and dulia, demonstrates from Scripture that prayer is an act of worship designated for God alone. This debate helps clarify the issue between Roman Catholics and Protestants on what constitutes veneration and is veneration appropriate at any time to anything other than God. It also helps us to understand the role our deceased brethren in the faith is not intercessory and that prayer belongs to God alone.
The core of atheism, materialism, is the major topic of discussion. It took place on radio station KFYI in Phoenix. Be warned--this is one bombastic debate. At several times, James was tested but kept his composure during the debate. Mr. Lynch, (American Atheist Society), by his own words, demonstrates the emptiness of atheism.
Dr. Fastigi attempts to defend Indulgences, while James refutes the very notion. The debate is very much back and forth until Fastigi attempts to read into the Westminster Confession the Roman idea of expiation of sins. It is at this point where the balance of the debate shifts and Fastigi's Catholic presuppositions are not just hinted at but clearly revealed.
This informal debate took place on December 16th 2003 on the Bible Answerman Broadcast. James White faces off against Hank Hanegraaff (The Bible Answerman) and George Bryson (Calvary Chapel). Confronted with numerous bible passages against his philosophical position George Bryson avoids interacting with the passages and simply repeats conundrums while making a number of his own dogmatic assertions. At one point Hank even states the charge of avoidance directly to him while stating that James had repeatedly exegeted them with no response. This debate is filled with the very things that Hank decries: dogmatic assertions, philosophical constructs and broad sweeping generalities. James White is the only one who repeatedly works toward appealing to and rightly dividing the scripture. It is a perfect example of how modern defenders of Libertarian Free Will run away from scripture to the arms of philosophical conundrum in order to defend their positions. Dr. White did a follow up DL to this show. Follow the link below to listen.
Is Mary the intercessor between Jesus and men by virtue of being the 'Mother of God,' or simply another sinner saved by grace? James White debates Robert Fastigi a scholar and professor of theology at St. Edward's University, a Catholic University. How should we view Mary? As the intercessor between Jesus and men by virtue of being the Mother of God, or as simply another sinner saved by grace who had the privilege of carrying the incarnate God/Man Jesus Christ who is our only mediator and intercessor? Once again, the difference hinges on where one looks for authority: God's Word alone as infallible and sufficient, or to fallible men sitting on self-made Papal thrones.
A debate between Dr. James White and George Bryson on the subject of Calvinism.
Is the Roman Pope Infallible? James White debates Robert Fastigi a scholar and professor of theology at St. Edward's University, a Catholic University.

While this is definitely an interesting exchange, it is not a very good debate. The topic was supposed to involve both sides presenting a positive exegesis of Romans 9 so that the audience could compare and decide for themselves. Professor Flowers chose to make a presentation on Total Depravity (which was the topic he had originally suggested), and then make some surface-level comments about how his position would be relevant to particular sections of Romans 9. Hence, the formal debate was basically uncontested, but the secondary debate (total depravity) was only partially contested, as James did not get to make a positive presentation on the topic. Despite this (all too common) problem, the discussion is very useful in comparing Reformed theology and exegesis with what calls itself “traditionalist” Southern Baptist views.
The classic debate on God's sovereign autonomy or man's libertarian free will. Dr. James White argues for the sovereign freedom of God, while opponent Dr. Steve Blakemore argues for the libertarian free will of man.
Do the scriptures teach us to baptize our children? Or do they teach us to lead people to Christ and to baptize them after repentance and faith? Are we to view our children as members of the covenant? Is baptism meant to replace circumcision in the new covenant? What about those verses in scripture where everyone in the house was baptized? Wouldn't that include the children? These questions and more illustrate the long standing debate over infant vs credo baptism. On March 23rd 2015 James White and Gregg Strawbridge debated it at The Orlando Grace Church in Orlando Florida.
James White vs Roman Catholic Apologist Gerry Matatics Does the Bible teach christians to do penance, good works or even that certain sins can cause one to lose their salvation? James White and Gerry Matatics debate the issue of Eternal Security.
James White debates Gerry Matatics in their best debate yet. What is the ultimate authority for the Christian? Is Rome right when she says that Scripture and Tradition as interpreted by an infallible Magisterium are the infallible rules of faith and practice of the Church? Or, was the Protestant Reformation correct in saying that the Bible alone is the sole infallible rule of faith and practice of the Church and that she must be subservient to its teachings?
New Age Bible Versions Refuted: James White debates Gail Riplinger on KRDS Radio James White vs. Gail Riplinger The debate that launched our KJV Only ministry. Live call in radio and not alot of time. James had to read the entire 690 page book before Riplinger would even go on the air with him.
Taped on Long Island in April of 1998, James White debates Roman Catholic Priest Mitchell Pacwa S.J. on the Biblical and Historical merits of the Papacy.
James defends his book Letters to a Mormon Elder on live talk radio in Salt Lake City. James takes on mormon apologists Martin Tanner, BYU professors Daniel C. Peterson and William Hamblin. This is a lively debate that covers the topics of the sufficiency of Scripture, canon issues, the veracity of the Book of Mormon, the false prophecy of Joseph Smith, faith, apologetics, and proving the existence of God. This was a call-in program and the callers asked good questions. This debate clearly revealed that the starting point of mormon apologetics is man, not God. Many of the arguments used by the mormons were the same as those employed by atheists who argue against the Bible.
James White vs Gilbert Scharffs James White debates Mormon apologist Gilbert Scharffs on the meaning of sin. This debate is an excellent example of the major divide that exists between Mormons and Christians on the depravity of man. Dr. Scharffs is the retired director of the LDS Institute of Religion at the University of Utah. He has a PhD from BYU where he taught for a time as well. He is the author of the book 'The Truth About the Godmakers.'
Lively discussion as James White faces mormon apologists Van Hale and Alma Allred. Listeners call in live from the very heart of mormon country with questions and comments.
Can men become God's as taught in Mormonism? When early church fathers discussed the subject of deification were they talking about a progression to Godhood? Mormon apologists Van Hale and Martin Tanner host James White's challenge on their belief in the plurality of gods as taught by Joseph Smith and the mormon church.
